LSM Dashboard Wins MarCom Platinum Award

The 2018 MarCom Awards have named LSM a Platinum Winner for our use of our proprietary client reporting dashboard technology with our franchise clients. Administered by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), the MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals. Entries come from professionals in a range of fields, including corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.

MarCom’s Platinum Award is presented to those entries judged to be among the most outstanding entries in the competition. Platinum Winners are recognized for their excellence in terms of quality, creativity and resourcefulness. There were over 6,500 entries from 20 countries in the MarCom Awards 2018 competition and only roughly 17 percent were chosen for this award. LSM is incredibly honored to be recognized by the MarCom Awards for our hard work in developing the best possible reporting tool for our clients.

Creating a Scalable Reporting Platform for Multi-Location Businesses

When managing a multi-location business such as Massage Envy or TITLE Boxing Club, overseeing and managing lead tracking and reporting can become even more complex. Our proprietary dashboard technology makes it easy for our clients to understand the origin and lifetime value of customers generated from their web assets (i.e. websites, landing pages, online ads, and local listings), helping them to make informed decisions about their digital marketing strategy.

“We had tried a number of off-the-shelf reporting solutions, but nothing we tried had all of the integrations and features we needed,” said Jeff Siebach, LSM’s Chief Technology Officer, on the origin of LSM’s reporting dashboard. “By building our reporting platform internally, we can include KPIs from all of the tools we use, as well as directly communicate with our clients through the platform. We’re nimble and able to adapt to new technologies more quickly thanks to our fast-acting and brilliantly talented dev team.”

As General Manager of TITLE Boxing Club in Rockville, LSM client John Reber enjoys the heightened lead generation tracking capabilities of the LSM dashboard. “Prior to using this tool, I was tracking our prospects with a color coded spreadsheet to see where our lead generation was coming from. I absolutely love the dashboard… it’s very easy to use and the content it generates for you is super helpful in tracking where your dollars should be spent. Not only can see where your leads are coming from, you can see the money it’s generating for your business!”

LSM Named Best of Industry Winner at 2018 WebAwards

The 2018 WebAwards recently named LSM the “Best Small Business Website” Winner! This award recognizes our website development work for our client, Pure Barre Chicago. Hosted by the Web Marketing Association, the WebAward Competition is the premier award recognition program for website developers and advertising agencies. At last year’s WebAwards, LSM won the “Small Business Standard of Excellence” Award, and we are even more ecstatic to be a winner this year.

Building an Effective Website

Our Pure Barre landing page stood out from other entries based on seven criteria: design, ease of use, copywriting, interactivity, use of technology, innovation, and content.

Cait Rechel, Pure Barre Franchisee and President of the Chicago co-op said, “It’s been so easy working with LSM, and we’ve really appreciated their willingness and ability to make changes on the fly, specifically with the website in terms of the design and, of course, the data we receive from it is really great as well.”

Team LSM Takes On The Escape Game

For our last quarterly meeting of 2018, LSM decided to hone some team-building at The Escape Game Nashville. The Escape Game is a timed 60-minute interactive challenge. It’s just you and your team against the clock, racing to see if you can solve a series of puzzles and successfully escape before time runs out. While your exact escape challenge differs depending on the escape room that you choose, they all have one primary objective: to escape as fast as possible. After dividing our office into two mission-ready teams, we headed over to The Escape Game Nashville to test our problem-solving skills.

Why The Escape Game? LSM is always looking for new corporate team-building activities to build our team’s confidence and skillset in tackling difficult challenges together. The Escape Game is the perfect company outing because it requires our team to come together and practice effective communication, teamwork, and trust. Without a strong team foundation, it’s that much harder to pull off a successful escape. Escape games are highly interactive, engaging, and memorable, making them a great way to have fun with your company while also practicing some crucial collaborative skills.

Choosing Our Escape

The Escape Game Nashville has seven escape rooms total: Special Ops, Playground, The Heist, Mission: Mars, Gold Rush, Prison Break, and Nashville. Each escape game is a completely immersive experience, with custom-designed rooms that make you feel as if you’ve been transported right into a movie. We wish we could have had the time to try out all of them, but we had to narrow down our escape room choices to two rooms: Gold Rush and The Heist. With sixty minutes on the clock, each team had to work together to figure out how to escape the room before the time ran out.

Gold Rush

In the Gold Rush escape game, Team LSM was on the hunt for gold. For one hour, we traced the footsteps of Clyde Hamilton, a greedy gold prospector in Northern California. A gambling addict, Clyde disappeared after making too many bets with the wrong crowd. We were tipped off as to where he stashed his gold before his mysterious disappearance, but the mob was onto us. We only had sixty minutes to find the gold and escape the room before it was too late. We made it out of the escape room before the mob found us with just 13 minutes to spare!

The Heist

The Heist escape game was just as intense. In this escape room, LSM had to try and beat a thief at his own game. An expert thief had stolen a famous piece of art and it was our job to try and recover this irreplaceable masterpiece before the authorities found us and mistook us to be the real thieves. Just like our first team, this LSM team was able to escape the room…with only 13 minutes left as well! Both teams were given free “I Escaped” stickers to prove we had made it out in time.

LSM’s Top 3 Escape Room Tips

Thinking about heading down to The Escape Game Nashville and trying out an escape room for the first time? After our day of escaping, we’ve got a few tips we can share:

  1. Split up. It takes a big group to successfully escape the room before time runs out, so make sure you use your numbers to your advantage. Each room has dozens of puzzles to solve. If everyone in your team is only focusing on one puzzle at a time, you’ll never escape the room in time. Instead, make sure your team is dividing themselves into small groups and taking on different puzzles so that you can be working on multiple at once and hopefully increase your escape time.
  2. Mix it up. Been working on the same puzzle for several minutes but not having any luck? Try mixing it up by asking other team members to take a look. Fresh eyes and a new perspective can help you spot something you may have missed before.
  3. Use your hints. You’re given three free hints with each escape game. Don’t be afraid to use them! Even the best escape room teams will get stuck a few times during the game, and since the first three hints are free, using them won’t affect your overall escape time. Just make sure that everyone on your team agrees to use a hint, and let your game monitor know!

Want to try your own luck at escaping from The Escape Game rooms but don’t live in Nashville? The Escape Game has 7 other locations, including The Escape Game Austin, The Escape Game Chicago, The Escape Game Dallas, The Escape Game Houston, The Escape Game Minneapolis, The Escape Game Orlando, and The Escape Game Pigeon Forge.

Check out The Escape Game’s blog, Facebook and Instagram to learn more about escaping the room!

LSM Cleans Out the Office

The Leaves Are Changing, But LSM Is Staying Green

This past August, the LSM team spent some time going around the office collecting a number of old flash drives, cords, and other electronic devices that were no longer in use. Not wanting to throw these items away and harm the environment, we decided to go on a recycling spree. We asked our team to contribute any plastic or electronic items they had around the office and at home to make sure we could have the greatest impact possible.

Why recycle electronic devices?

Since 2015, Metro Nashville has asked for businesses and residents to recycle their electronic waste. Electronic devices can contain materials and chemicals that are hazardous to the environment and can cause some pretty bad damage when thrown in the trash. Plus, many devices have components that can be reused, reducing the energy spent when manufacturing new electronic devices. We’re a pretty tech-heavy team, so we had a hefty pile of electronics that was growing with each passing month. We wanted to make sure that we disposed of our old electronics properly to avoid causing any harm to our community and to respect and follow Metro Nashville’s guidelines.

So what did LSM do?

Together, the LSM team gathered all the recyclable items from both our office and our homes. All packed up, we drove over to our neighborly Best Buy on Charlotte Ave, which has an electronics recycling center. We made sure to check with Metro Nashville’s Public Works Department first to ensure we had identified the proper location to recycle our devices.

Between all of our employees, we successfully recycled over 70 electronic items. We packed the recycling bins with so much stuff that they actually started to overflow! But we didn’t just stop there – we also made sure to recycle 75 more plastic bags and containers that we’d had hanging around the office. All in all, a pretty good haul. Check out our graphic below to learn more about how LSM keeps green.

Join LSM on our recycling mission!

While LSM is grateful for the recycling services offered by our local BestBuy, that’s not the only location around town where you can recycle your electronics. Visit Nashville.gov to learn more about electronic waste recycling and find your nearest drop-off location.

LSM Named Finalist in 2015 Small Business Awards

10 Fun Google Features/Oddities

When you’re the number one search engine in the world, life is easy. When life is easy, you tend to have some time on your hands. It therefore should not surprise you to find out that Google has some interesting features that you might not know about. Some of these are very useful, allowing us to find answers more efficiently. Some of them could not be less practical. Either way, you’ll probably impress your friends with at least one or two of them.

1. Weather/Time

Useful: If you put the keywords “weather” or “time” followed by the name of a city into the search bar, you can quickly check either of these for many worldwide locales. Note: you might need to use an area code, state, or country to help narrow it down.

Wait till Saturday to come visit. By then it’ll be a balmy 108!

2. The Meaning of Life

Not useful: If you type “answer to life the universe and everything” into the Google search bar, Google will confidently inform you that the answer is exactly 42. For those of you that are not familiar with the reference, it’s a nod to the book Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, in which the number 42 is the answer to Life’s Ultimate Question.

All of this can be summed up by one simple, two-digit integer.

3. Sports

Useful: For all you sports fans out there, you can use Google to check recent scores and the next games on the schedule for specific teams. Just insert the name of the team into the search bar and the info should appear above the search results. For some franchises, other useful facts appear on the side of the page as well, such as roster information, championships won, current head coach, and stadium. No word yet on why they bothered to make a page for any of the teams from Cleveland.

After the loss of Charlie Sheen, Cleveland sports would never quite be the same again. And by “same” we obviously mean “even briefly successful.”

4. Traveling in the Orient

Somewhat irrelevant: A lot of people know about this one, but it’s one of the best. Go to Google Maps and click the Get Directions button. Put China in the A Box and Japan in the B Box. Check out Step #38.

Apparently, Google assumes we can bust out a Sea-Doo on a whim.

5. Unit Conversion

Useful: Google can do unit conversion for all kinds of measurements, including currency. As long as you phrase it correctly, the answer should appear instantly at the top of the page (and even in the search bar itself). Correct phrasing: “how many feet in kilometer,” or “seconds in a day.” Unfortunately, this doesn’t work for all units. When we tried to test it by asking how many jiffies there were in a leap year, Google failed to provide an immediate answer. Amateurs.

Oh you’re good Google. You’re good…

6. Gravity

Fairly worthless: The next time you’re bored at work, type “Google gravity” into the search bar and click the link with that title (the site is safe). Once everything falls, you can play with the various things on screen by clicking and releasing to throw them around. Moving your browser window also jumbles everything up. By the way, you’re welcome.

This is what happens when you let Google have too much caffeine.

7. Tracking Planes and Packages

Useful: If you’re a big fan of knowing the exact location of things at all times, you can track packages and flights directly from Google. For packages, all you have to do is type in a UPS, Fedex, or USPS tracking number. For flights, all you need to do is insert the name of the airline and the flight number.

Snickelfritz was reluctant to be shipped off to Seattle, but we knew he’d be safe thanks to Google’s sweet package tracking tool.

8. Beatboxing

Completely pointless: Go to the Google Translator tool (which you can find, conveniently enough, by typing “translator” into the search bar) and set it to translate from German to English. Then copy and paste “pv zk pv pv zk pv zk kz zk pv pv pv zk pv zk zk pzk pzk pvzkpkzvpvzk kkkkkk bsch” into the box and click on the sound button in the bottom right corner. It should sound like a guy beatboxing.

“Pv zk pv pv zk pv zk kz zk pv pv pv zk pv zk zk pzk pzk pvzkpkzvpvzk kkkkkk bsch” is actually the rough German equivalent to the English term “gangsta.”

9. Quick Search

Useful: You can search for local restaurants, businesses, or other stores by typing in the category of the thing you’re looking for and the zip code of the location. A listing of relevant Google Places will show up for your perusal. Examples: “Italian food 33606” or “barber 22124.” This also works for movie times if you type in “movies” before the zip.

So it is real…

10. Askew

Does not advance humanity in any way: If you type “askew” into Google, the whole page will be at a funny angle. This is particularly entertaining unless you’re actually just trying to find information about the word “askew,” in which case it’s actually fairly annoying. This also works for “tilt.”

As you can clearly see here, some people at Google have way too much time on their hands.

*Special YouTube Bonus*

If you get bored while waiting for your video to load, pause it. Then hold down the left arrow key for approximately three seconds. Now press the down arrow key. At this point you should be playing the classic game Snake, which rose to fame when cell phones were twice as large and still frequently used to make actual phone calls.

In this decade, “mobile” meant “can fit in the bed of a truck.”

We’re sure you have some of your own.  Let us know which ones we should have included!
